There are a number of ways you can get involved in helping at Diabetes Counselling Online, thereby supporting people with diabetes.
If you have diabetes you will also find it very rewarding as many people discover things about themselves and their own diabetes through volunteering.
You do not have to have diabetes to get involved however!
Volunteering
We are always seeking people to volunteer for a range of things, including fundraising and getting involved in planning and arranging events. As we are a Channel 9 Telethon supported charity in South Australia, this includes a major lottery once a year and other Channel 9 Telethon events; as well as some in house events.
You can help us by representing us in your state with our soon to be launched “Faces of DCO” and helping out around the website, as well as spreading the word among family and friends when we are holding fundraising events and passing on some lottery tickets!
Please contact us at [email protected] to get involved and check out the volunteering page to fill out the registration form.
Workplace giving
Many organisations run Workplace Giving Programs encouraging staff to donate a percentage of their salary to a chosen charity. Often, organisations then match these donations dollar for dollar. If your organisation has this program in place, and you would like Diabetes Counselling Online Inc added to enable staff to donate to support for people with diabetes, please contact your HR department/Payroll office. We would be happy to provide you with information on our organisation, and/or relevant banking details to process the donations. You can also access this via CAF Charities Aid Foundation, who arrange all the necessary details – we are registered with them here: http://www.cafaustralia.org.au/
Peer support
We are always looking for people to help us with moderating forums and chat sesssions – drop us a line to find out more. It is a good way to learn more about yourself and to hook up with other people with diabetes. In 2013-2014 we will be trying a new programme called “Sweet Relief” which will give you the chance to get involved as a peer counsellor.
Specialised skills
We are happy to chat with you about any skills you may be able to offer such as IT, newsletter management etc – just let us know what you can help with! Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers!
