Hi all,
I am new to your ranks and I have to face facts and get on with it and cheerfully I say hello to you all and hope you’re well.
I was diagnosed type 2 in August and in retrospect, it was probably a good thing as my lifestyle was not good. I have changed a lot since that day. My initial HbA1c was over 14 and my BGL at the test was 25! They were appalled. I have to say that apart from blurriness, I was asymptomatic.
Anyway, since then the alcohol has almost all gone and a much improved low-GI diet is now in place. My last HbA1c was 7.1, I have lost lots of weight, I exercise more and they are all pleased.
I monitor three times a day. I am really trying hard to control this, but the depressing thing is the morning reading. The lowest it has been is 5.6, but normally it’s over 6 or 7 with the occasionaly spike into the teens that I can’t explain.
The good news is that during the day I vary from a relatively new low of 4.7 – 5.9 which is great as I understand things. I seem to be doing things right during the day, but I can’t control the overnight as I am mostly asleep. We do have a light snack before bed and some low fat milk.
I was hoping for some tips that people with experience had found successful to try and avoid the high overnight levels. I have heard stories of muesli bars etc in the night which I could do as I am not a good sleeper in any case.
Many thanks
Jon
