Hi folks, I was asked to let people know how i went with my new start on insulin, well my first report would be that i wish i had started it years ago, other than that its been great.
I still never did see the diabetes educator, unfortunately owning my own trucks means when i take a day off i lose hundreds of dollars not just a days pay and thats bad in the current climate, i have seen my doctor though and i think his eyes are still rolling in his head after i told him i taught myself to inject with the pen from a youtube video lol , though he checked and said ive been doing a good job.
Got a bit depressed at first because i thought it would all change after the first shot but now its been a couple of weeks and things are really good, ive gone from a 14 day average of 16.2 to an average of 6.1, felt quiet ill when i finally came down but after reading some old posts on here and a bit of net surfing i got control and feel bloody great…
Ive always been a healthy eater but had that uncontrolable sweet tooth when in the truck so ive cut that out and have only nuts (unsalted) , they took some getting used to and i ive fallen for those sunflower , peppita mixes , only drink water or caffiene/sugar free coke and now when i get to a town and park up for the night i have dinner then go for a long walk, though in some of the little towns im starting to look like a stalker as i have to walk past some places 3 or 4 times to get a 45 minute walk in
Anyway, thanks to all on here that helped alleviate some of my fears and thanks to the people brave enough to air there problems on here so i could read them and gleen some helpfull info out…
Brett
P.S. Looks like i get to test my ability to look after diabetes in a crisis, 10.50pm and weve been asked to tow emergency supplies to remote towns looks like i’ll be driving in gumboots and swimmers again lol, , hope to reply when im back or parked on a hill

Yes it does take a bit of time to settle as you have seen. That is a amazing result. You are making so many changes that will be important for your wellbeing as well as your physical health.Wow how did the emergency go?!!
