    Hi everyone!
I’ve just found this website after searching for info about a type 2 issue that’s affecting me. Short story: I was diagnosed with type 2 two and a half years ago and it has been well-controlled up to about 3 months ago. Coincidentally, I’m on 2 x 500mg Diabex XR (now Metex XR) each night. Over the last 3 months I’ve had 3 bouts of flus, with the last one now going on 5 weeks in duration (doctor thinks it became a nasal infection) – though it feels like it’s leaving after being on strong antibiotics over the last week (Augmentin Duo Forte). During the last few weeks my fasting BGL each morning has been between 11 and 14 mmol/L, which is much higher than it used to be (between 5 and ” title=”Cool” />. My chemist recently switched me from Diabex XR to Metex XR, about 2 months ago, as they ran out of Diabex XR.
I had 2 croissants and a coffee for breakfast today then did enough housework and gardening (the washing, cleaning, mowing the lawn and weeding) to work up a sweat. I then measured my BGL – it was 23 mmol/L!!! I checked twice more and still got readings between 21 and 23! I’m really worried now. I have an appointment to see my GP in 2 days’ time.
    Any suggestions?
    I suppose my questions are:
    1. Have the bouts of flu (including this latest 5 week one), had some drastic effect on my diabetes?
    2. Has the change from Diabex XR to Metex XR contributed to my worsening BGL results?
I forgot to mention – I had a blood test about 3 months’ ago and my HbA1c at that time was about 6.9 or so, so not bad.
    Thanks everyone!
