Hello everyone, nice to be here , on the new site.

my name is Arte, and i have type 2…. i think it is.

i use a small amount of insulin daily, and have pain in my feet continually,

from nerve damage…and increasingly feeling muscular stiffness..which i believe is also related.

Diabetic Neuropathy, is something i don’t know much about, so i have an interest in discussing and learning more

to gain help and understanding, through sharing knowledge of our experiences,

and what has brought you all,… relief from this distressing symptom.

and, also…..getting to know the community here, and how you are feeling and managing your diabetes.

    Thank You,

I hope to be communicating and sharing with you all,

Thanks too, to the Diabetes Counselling managers,

    arte

    Welcome arte.

A difficult problem to live with, abd a difficult problem to treat.

I shall watch with interest what other people post here before making comment.

Are you having treatment for this? Has it been succcessful to the point of comfort ? What different treatments have you tried?

    Hi Arte,

one of my favourite places to get information about feet is http://sydney.edu.au/medicine/diabetes/foot/index.html

Its in the process of review and update, but it might be a good place to gain some more insight into your problem of neuropathy.

    Cheers,

    David

Hi, and thank you Imagine_David, for your communications and links.

i have had the feet pains for, a couple of years now, it took me a while to realize i had a problem, as i had no knowledge of what was happening ..eventually, i couldn’t deny there was a problem and i began to try and find out what it was.

Diabetic Neuropathy has become permanent for me, it is mostly noticeable around the soles of my feet at this stage..though i can feel it in my hands too.. it feels like : burning, tingling, disturbing and uncomfortable sensations, that are ever present.
I am beginning to understand that this condition can affect other areas, and is not easy to find relief from.
I despaired for some time, as i knew i had this for good…and i had to try and enjoy life with this burning, frozen feet feeling..till i am dead.

    so..what have i tried…
I have been on Lyrica ( pregabalin) for most of this year now, @300mg/daily. I can’t say that it has removed the symptoms to any great degree..i can not tell, the pain is still very disturbing to me.

The pain may be a lot worse without it,… i am not wishing to go off it now, if i try to miss doses, to get off it..the pain become so disturbing, that i return to it in desperation. I have found that if i use a 5mg Valium dose, in the evenings, when i notice the pain symptoms are worse,………i think, i get a reduction in disturbing sensations.

I sometimes feel better if i have my feet soles against a ‘warm’… hot water bottle.
I have found, that if i am engaged in social activities, that i give my involvement and attention to, i don’t notice the sensations so much.

I try to have shoes on most all the time, as the warmth helps with the frozen feet feeling and to protect the feet, vulnerable to shock from cold surfaces, like ceramic tiles in Winter.

That is all i have at present..it is a situation, i just have to live with.

I would be happy to read of any one else’s history in dealing with this condition.

And, i know Lyrica has been approved for the PBS, as i have been informed by Pfizer, yet, it has not been added to the PBS.

It is costing me $106 a script, for a months supply…with me being on the DSP, this is a problem..i can not sustain this cost, and am desperate to see this drug added to the PBS. I have often wondered if…If we could form some sort of united group to increase the attention to this matter to the Health Minister, or who ever decides these things.

I do despair at having to live with this, and the knowledge it will get worse with time and age, but one has to keep up a positive mind and deal with it.

Thank you David, i will see where these links you posted, take me.

    bye for now,

    arte

I am thinking of trying this Vitamin B combination,

    Benfotiamine – a form of VitaminB1

    Methylcobalamin – a form of VitaminB12

to see what effect this has on my neuropathy,

I found this info, it’s from a site in the US, and I post a link here,

    http://www.realfoodnutrients.com/Neuropathy/home.htm

but the ingredients can be sourced in Australia, from Biovea Australia

    http://www.biovea-australia.com/index.aspx

also this might be useful info:

    http://www.benfotiamine.org/FAQ.htm

I am going to try this, and am hoping that it may be part of reducing my symptoms.

If anyone has tried these supplements, I’d be interested to read of your results.

or on anything that may have helped your symptoms.

    Hi Arte

Have you considered seeing a Chinese herbalist / acupuncturist ? I am not suggesting / recommending that you do – just wondered if you have considered this as an option. If you are paying so much for your Lyrica, it is not helping much, is it worth your while exploring other options?

I do not know of any evidence (I have not explored … yet) relating to acupuncture and neuropathy. I’ll see what I can find.

I empathise with your pain: it is an horrible situation – to be in pain and find minimal relief.

    Cheers,

    David

“Forty-four patients completed the study with 34 (77%) showing significant improvement in their primary and/or secondary symptoms (P < 0.01). These patients were followed up for a period of 18-52 weeks with 67% were able to stop or reduce their medications significantly. During the follow-up period only eight (24%) patients required further acupuncture treatment. Although 34 (77%) patients noted significant improvement in their symptoms, only seven (21%) noted that their symptoms cleared completely.”

    Hi David,

thanks for your replies and research links.

The results noted above, are promising..it is worth trying.

and no, i have not ever had any of this sort of treatment,

but i am willing now, to give attention to finding a therapist for this.

Thank you for informing me to this potential benefit.

Further to the Vitamin B supplement,

    I received this reply:
    Dear Arte,

    Thank you for your inquiry.

The Nerve Support Formula can help you with your diabetic neuropathy in your feet.

It will provide your body with the nutrients it needs to heal the damage to your nerves naturally and this will help reduce or eliminate your pain by treating the cause of the problem.

Yes, we ship to Australia, as we have no local distributor there at the moment.

The cost for each 120 capsule bottle (30 day supply) of Nerve Support Formula plus shipping and handling to Australia in US dollars is:

    One bottle(30 day supply) – $44.20 plus $10.80 s/h for a total of $55.00
    Two bottles(60 day supply) – $88.40 plus $13.80 s/h for a total of $102.20
    Three bottles(90 day supply) – $132.60 plus $15.80 s/h for a total of $148.40

We ship by First Class International which usually takes one to two weeks to arrive.

Your first order comes with a 90 day money back guarantee on the initial order so that you have no risk in using it to solve your problem.

I recommend getting at least two bottles to start out with so you can give your body some time to heal the nerve damage and your also covered by the money back guarantee.

You can order from us directly from our on-line order page. Just place your order on our website and when we receive it, we will change the shipping method and cost. https://www.realfoodnutrients.com/neuropathy/order.htm

Further to my Neuropathy treatment thread:

I received the parcel from Wellness Support Network on the 24-12 -12

and began taking the capsules as directed.

They have been giving me persistent headaches for the two days i have been on them,

so i am halving the dose, till my body gets used to this.

I can report, that even by the third day, there has been a quite noticeable decrease

in the burning sensation that constantly irritated my feet soles.

I am feeling,.. a closer to normal sensation, in my feet.

The side effects so far , are lingering headache, and some bowel changes.

This is information provided to give some hope to the sufferers of Neuropathy.

I too, have feet that feel like they have been exposed to too much sun, especially the soles.

They feel like powerful infrared radiators!

This is most apparent at night causing me to sleep right on the edge of the bed where I can

quickly and easily stick my feet out of the covers even in Winter when the need arises.

The Neuropathy has advanced to the stage where I have a sense of numbness under the toes

as well as just back a bit on the sole itself.

I’ve had both for quite some time now.

HOWEVER I’m doing something about slowing down the process for the past couple

of months by a tight regime of food selection and glucose level monitoring – nowhere

near what Type1′s have to do though.

I wonder why I didn’t do this years ago
