was diagnosed with type 2 2 months ago, and as directed, have been stabbing fingers 4 times a day. My query is the variance between the readings on my machine and that of the diabetes nurse. For example, using the same drop of blood her machine may show a reading of 6 while mine shows 4.8.

Queried the manufacturers who sent test strips and told me the machine is accurate, and that up to a 20% variance in machines is acceptable because "it wont cause the Dr to vary your treatment"

I cant get my head around how any measuring instrument can have that degree of acceptable variance while giving confidence in the results.

As a newbie, is there a listing of brands with degrees of reliability? Is one brand more accurate than another? would appreciate the thoughts
