The generosity of people never ceases to amaze me. In the midst of chaos around the globe and awful stories in the media about the terrible things people can do to each other, there comes the opposite – the beautiful, the caring and the awesomeness that is human beings.

Yesterday our team had the opportunity to attend a family event put on by Channel 9 Telethon in Adelaide, Distinctive Homes and Aspire by Lanser Communities. As a selected Channel 9 Telethon Charity, we get the opportunity to participate in a range of fundraising events each year. The major one is the Channel 9 Telethon Distinctive Home and Land Lottery. The unique thing about this lottery is that the home and all prizes are 100% donated and all proceeds go directly to each charity. This means whatever we sell comes to our charity to support our work with people living with diabetes across Australia. It is even more amazing that Distinctive Homes have been doing this for more than 2 decades. You can get your tickets on our store.

The team at Channel 9 Telethon are a small and passionate one, a bit like ourselves! They work tirelessly and are dedicated to making sure charities can raise as much as possible. There are so many wonderful causes. For the street party launch at the house, the weather was predicted to be awful, and it was in the main, but the day was brilliant! So well planned and organised, so many fantastic give aways and activities for families, generosity at its best.

None the least was that of Phil and Amity, winners of The Block All Stars – who flew into Adelaide that morning, drove to the event and spent the day, in the icy rain and wind, talking and connecting to each and every charity to find out what we do and why we do it. They are such a lovely couple, genuinely interested in all we had to say about our work and to understand what it is like to live with diabetes.
A full tour of the home you could win, more pics with Phil and Amity, and from the event to follow, but this morning, just giving a high five to generosity and awesomeness of all these people – thank you from all of us at Diabetes Counselling Online .
