Hi guys
do you get frustrated with all the messages about how easy it is to get healthy? How simply quitting sugar will make everything better, and that exercise is a simple thing to do?
I am having a diabetes rant over on DiabetesTV! Come join the diabetes conversation

Hi Helen,
Thanks ….I needed this today!
I’ve been struggling recently and went on search for some online support because I couldn’t get ANY from medical practitioners in my area.
I have been living with type 2 for 30 years, I wasn’t overweight and was managing quite well with diet and exercise until they put me on medication …touting it would help …that was 8 years ago, since then I am tired all the bloody time and I have put on 20 kilo in weight!!!!!
Last week I made an appointment with a new MD for a an unrelated issue to diabetes, after the usual consult about current health she launched (as per usual) into a care plans and the benefits of a care plan ( I have no diabetes issues that need addressing atm besides weight) i repeatedly told her everything is up to date and that is NOT why I’m here but she saboutaged my appointment and even though I had a double appointment she concentrated on what I should and shouldn’t be doing to manage my diabetes, which varies between 3-12 on bad days. (which is a lot lately) after she prepared to send me on my way I asked about what I originally made the appointment for and was advised to make another appointment for next week, which I did. I was contacted the day before by reception and advised that the doctor wanted me to come in earlier to get some base points for diabetes management. so I went in 30 minutes earlier then my appointment time……….after 50 min with the nurse I was taken into the doctors rooms who reported to me some (issues I’ve been aware of for many years …in fact I had taken in old X-rays at her request). From there for the next 20 minutes she went on again about the care plan and who I HAD to see in the next week, even though my last lot of appointments were less than 6 months ago!!!
Trying to maintain my composure and my frustration I asked if we could now address the problem I made the appointment for (last week). “no” she replied, “you will need to make another appointment next week, either Monday, Wednesday or Friday, I’m only located 15 minutes per patient and you should have made a double appointment”, to which I replied, “I did.” I left the doctors office …still in pain, frustrated and confused …why is an unnecessary care plan more important then the pain I’ve been experiencing for the last 3 weeks? Why is this disease attributed to every symptom one might have (without any investigation)? Why do I have to keep changing doctors and lie about my current health status before they address any problems I come to see them with ….I’ve had two emergency operations in he past …not relevant to diabetes after I’ve lied to doctors about my current health …because its the only way I can get them to take me seriously and look at my problems in a NON diabetic way.
oh my goodness!! How frustrating!!!!!!!! Thank you for sharing your rant and I for one am hoping you can get the help you need!
