Dining in with diabetes® Thank you

During March we invited you to get on-board and support Dine In For Diabetes®. This worthwhile and fun event helped raise awareness and funds for the FREE counselling services available to family and friends of people living with diabetes. If you have not donated yet the donations portal is still open for the next month so you can hop on and make a donation even if you did not hold an event. All donations are tax-deductible and a receipt will be automatically sent to you.

Thank you to all who got involved, hosted an event and shared the celebration of your relationship with food with us online.

Diabetes Counselling Online is the only national charity offering free e-counselling and diabetes education to all people living with diabetes and their families. Did you know that people with diabetes suffer twice the rates of depression and reduced wellbeing? Many people are confused and distressed by their relationship with food and the dietary changes needed to have a healthy body. In today’s busy world fewer of us seem to take time to cook, to share healthy food with family and friends, and look after our body and our minds.

With 275 people diagnosed per day with diabetes in Australia alone, most people have a connection to diabetes in some way. All the money raised in the month of March for Dine In For Diabetes® will help us establish a 1300 counselling service as an extension of our existing online counselling services. Diabetes Counselling Online is a FREE counselling service, vital to the health and wellbeing of people living with diabetes.
We look forward to sharing this event with you again in 2014!

Dine In For Diabetes month begins today!

539580_10152601006185444_172838079_n

What: On the 1st of March 2013, Diabetes Counselling Online launches our major national fundraiser – Dine In For Diabetes® which will run across the month of March. The Launch at the Adelaide Central Markets will include cooking demonstrations by Silvia Hart with appearance by Ambassador of Diabetes Counselling Online, Nathan Bassett. There will be give aways, the opportunity to register to hold a Dine In For Diabetes® event along with great offers for those who do, and information about the free online diabetes counselling and education service, Diabetes Counselling Online.

Why: With 275 people diagnosed per day with diabetes in Australia alone, most people have a connection to diabetes in some way. The Dine In For Diabetes® experience will not only challenge participants to try a range of different recipes so they can celebrate and reignite their relationship with food and cooking, but also provide an opportunity to connect with family and friends and encourage support networks which enhance wellbeing and quality of life. Helen Edwards, Founder and Director of Diabetes Counselling Online says “sharing food with loved ones is critical to wellbeing and overall health and in particular is very important for our children.” All funds raised will go to sustaining Diabetes Counselling Online service and developing a 1300 counselling line.

Who: This is an event for everyone! Those who are touched by diabetes, as well as those who simply have a passion for food; and those who enjoy spending quality time with family and friends. With the goal of “celebrating your relationship with food” the event aims to debunk myths about food and diabetes, as well as reminding people generally about the importance of home cooking and sharing food, in connecting to a better quality of life.

Where: Adelaide Central Market (Gouger Street entrance) near the stage area.

When: 5.30pm to 7.30 pm.

Diabetes and Food

diabetes and food

diabetes and foodYeah! Food and diabetes can be so confusing – Dine In For Diabetes aims to CELEBRATE food, to source it, to cook it, to share it and to enjoy it. Life, food and diabetes need to equal a happy relationship :-) And the same goes for people who do not live with diabetes – so many mixed messages about what is ok and not ok to eat, this and that diet – we need to slow down and enjoy fresh, quality food prepared with love. :-)
